Val- I think the obvious choice here, one many probably put, is Idris Elba. He has played cunning and handsome, but he has also played bad and rugged in films like Beast of No Nation. He is mature, but not old, and he can seem roughed up. He has also proven his acting prowess and would be up to the challenge of this complex character.

Charlie -So he might need to be aged up for the role a bit, even though he is 34, but Donald Glover could work very well for this character. Glover has played both very serious and very comedic characters. In his newest show, Atlanta, he portrays a wide variety of emotions on a show that he describes as “twin peaks but with rappers.” Charlie is torn up over his first kills, but he is more at peace with himself at least, and I think Glover could portray this secondary role to Val very well.

Alea - Zoe Saldana is beautiful, but can also very easily be transformed into a more motherly and teaching figure. She is also an amazing actress that has experience in theater, and her past roles make me believe that she would be able to portray the maturity needed for this character.

Rusty - Again, I feel like there is an obvious choice when given the entire gambit of actors to choose from, Denzel Washington. Denzel Washington is one of the world’s most acclaimed actors. He has a voice that works as the voice of reason, and his age and maturity would be in the perfect ballpark for Rusty. He also has a plethora of experience, including that of the Broadway stage.

Parker - This role screams Andre Braugher to me. The voice, the sarcastic nature, everything about it is perfect for him. You can see the wit and serious needed for this role in his role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. When I was reading this play, I could not get him out of my head.

William H Willis - This is a short role, but a role that is very important. I think Edward Norton would work very well for it. He is a very acclaimed actor and can be a tough, racist, brute as seen in American History X. He is also a regular looking guy which would add to the confusion at the beginning.
